    Hey plr19,

I am currently a recruit in the Arlington academy. Like any police job, it is often difficult to get hired, but well worth the reward should it work out for you. Something great about Arlington, is that our recruiting/hiring process is well expedited. On average, the process takes 3-5 weeks from the date of initial interview/physical testing to final interview.

The academy is definitely difficult. Most people excel in some areas and have difficulty with others. PT is generally 2 days a week with 2 hours worth of working out each day. Some days there are 3-4-8 hour sessions depending on the tactic being taught. 4-8 hour sessions are not PT the whole time, but rather defensive tactics as well.

The academics in the academy are very doable if you apply yourself to the diligent study of the material. In our academy, we have study group sessions once a week before each test. This has helped to ensure that no one has been separated from the academy due to academics so far. Our educational requirement is a big hurdle, so if you already have a college degree, you will have (hopefully) developed study habits.

The department is great overall. We have a lot of exciting things happening in Arlington right now as the city continues to expand and solidifies itself as a major entertainment city for D/FW. If you get hired on, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

One more thing about the Academy - everyone here wants to see the recruits succeed. They are willing to do what is necessary to assist you as long as that is not compromising the standards of the city.

If you have any other questions, call a recruiter - they will be more than happy to assist you.
