Hello everyone. I just relocated from PA to Texas. I was a police officer in PA and moved to Texas for a different career. I'm making decent money but I'm looking for a par time job to make extra money. I miss police work and would like to go back to the job but in a part time bases. I know there's reserve units with the county sheriffs' and constable departments, but I would like to get paid for doing the job. I've done some research but can't seem to find any info regarding which departments have paid part time positions. All I know so far is that Metro has paid part time officers but, does anyone know what other departments in the Houston area has paid part time police officer positions? God bless!!

The only two reasons why people want to become a reserve officer. First, they are not eligible to be a full-time officer. Second, they got into trouble with their previous department and somehow got kicked out (maybe even got charged with a crime). Most of the departments don't pay or pay very little for reserve officers because they are only required to work one or two days a month. People choose to work as reserved officers because they have to and that is the only way to retain their TCOLE license, on top of that they can work traffic control as an extra job (can't work security jobs, you must be full-time). If you can, try to work for a department as full-time to find a pension then stop completely. Police work nowadays is totally different from 10 years ago.

In the county where I live, here in Texas, the reserves get paid for working certain tourist areas during the busy season. Other than that, I don't know of reserves being paid. Back in the early '90s, I did funeral escorts on police motorcycles, and I would sometimes work with reserve constable deputies. I can't remember the details, but they had to stop due to the security officer companies complaining they were losing out to reserve peace officers taking their business away.
I'm not saying there aren't those positions out there, but other than this one particular county, I don't know of any others.Comment

Just an FYI Texas folks, paid part time work is common here in PA and a majority of smaller departments operate with part time officers.I don't answer recruitment messages....Comment

OP, keep in mind that Houston has elected only TWO Republican mayors since 1837, 186 years ago. The last one was elected in 1978, 45 years ago.Comment

I’m old enough to remember Kathy Whitmire as mayor of Houston. I worked for the state and was assigned to Houston. Whitmire tied the hands of the HPD when it came to certain issues regarding minorities and gays (committing crimes), so we had to come in to clean up the mess.
I don’t think I bought a beer for the entire time I was assigned there. My HPD peers would always pick up my tab.

Try small agencies like holiday lakes Pd, Sweeney PD, etc….
they’re very liberal for extra job employment.Comment
