Henderson County sheriff's deputies are dead and a third is wounded after a shooting in Payne Springs.

That word from Lt. Pat McWilliams of the Henderson County Sheriff's Department.

The deputies were shot and killed today while answering a domestic disturbance call.

A sheriff's department official says another deputy was wounded -- as was the suspected gunman.

A spokeswoman for East Texas Medical Center in Tyler says the hospital had been advised to expect two patients -- believed to be a deputy and the suspect. No conditions were immediately available.

The wounded deputy's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A woman at the rural home wasn't hurt.

The sheriff's department tells CBS 11 News that someone used a high-powered rifle to shoot the deputies.

Chopper 11 showed many police officers on the scene, which is in a rural area.

McWilliams says one of the officers killed was in uniform. The other slain deputy is a plain clothes investigator.

McWilliams says the shootings happened just hours after the deputies attended the county's peace officers memorial to honor those slain in the line of duty.

Payne Springs is a community of about 700, located 60 miles southeast of Dallas.

Although officers face multiple domestic disturbances in a single shift, it just shows how dangerous these calls really are. Rough stuff.
