I’m currently in the Background Phase as of 11/14. Does anyone knows how long is this phase?

Hi there, everybody's background is different. I've read someone's took about a week. I think a 1-2 months are more common. Mine took from August 22- November 2.

Jane0225 It can take 3 weeks to 3 months.. just depends. everyone's background is different. But good news is that HPD is back to normalcy, and most likely it will be done in under 2 months.

There’s no timing, but it is standard pushups.

Thanks a lot. I am kinda worried about the push ups? Do they give retakes or if I fail will they allow me to redo it again?

anair No retakes. During testing maintain consistency... in order to do them fast don't give it all you got and get burnt out in the middle of it.. be slow if you have to... you will have no problem doing it. Good Luck!

Hello everyone. I’ve finally registered so I can post on this thread. I’ve been hawking this thread since I started my process and was really hoping for the November class. That didn’t happen, so I’m shooting for the Jan class now. I’m currently in background but I haven’t heard anything yet. I passed my polygraph Oct 4th or around there.

Regarding pay, according to the website cadet pay is 42000, as well as probationary officer, correct? Someone that’s in the academy now, how much are your checks each pay period?

I’m just as excited as before to get in, and I hope to hear back soon!!!



Edit: Concerning push ups, proper form goes a long way. Make sure you’re not shooting your elbows out at a 90 degree angle when you’re going down or pressing up. Look up some videos of form and practice it. If you have asthma, make sure to puff up before running! And don’t be like me and be one of the last ones to run the 200m.... I didn’t get a lot of rest before the 1.5mile.

The new 2 year agreement which Mayor Turner approved is going into effect on July 1st 2019, which means class #240 pass outs (probationary officers) may start at $43680.

The pay is approximately $1600-$1700 before taxes, insurance, ect... after taxes should be somewhere around $1300 depends on how you fill out your tax forms.

P/S: For the push-ups. Make sure you do more than the minimum because DT instructors would give "love" when you get into the academy on your first day. So don't try to aim for the minimum.

Has anyone heard anything yet on be accepted to the Jan class. I was told my file was complete and was awaiting approval. This was like a month and half ago and still haven't heard back. Anyone in the same boat?

Just wanted to get in touch with people who recently tested for HPD and see where we are in the selection process.

Phase 1 -- July 09th
Phase 2 -- July 23rd
Phase 3 -- Sept 10th
Phase 4 — Oct 24th - Nov 21st
Phase 5 -- (Psych) Nov 28th & (Med) Nov 30th


Will keep updating regularly.

Just got scheduled for Psych on Nov 28th & Med on Nov 30th. Final step on the way... this is exciting!

I am an out of town on the fast track. I chose the 2 day option due to not being able to take more time off work This is my timeline:


Phase 1 -- Aug 3
Phase 2 -- Oct 22 (passed)
Phase 3 -- Oct 23 (passed
Phase 4-- I have yet to hear from a BI.

Just a waiting game for now.

Good luck to you. I missed out on the last 2 classes due to not being done with the process .Im finally finished everything. I'm been in the process since April. It seems like they are moving much faster than before. So anything is possible.
