Bigger doesn't always mean better like the post stated above, do your research! Police work is the same anywhere you go. The difference between depts is how the admin treats its people and how they allow their officers to do their job. I would take a mid size pro-police admin over a larger dept, who is known for crappy admin any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Again......Do your homework!!!!!!!!!!!

Very good advice. There is a wide spectrum of opinions on DPD and I would suggest that you carefully weigh the feedback you receive. That being said you are going to hear a lot about issues in Dallas, and from my perspective I would look elsewhere but only you can decide if you want to take that option or if you want to join DPD and help be part of the solution.

I'm looking for agencies in Houston as well but primarily Dallas area. So far, I'm looking at Dallas PD because of its large size of the agency. So size of the agency would be the most important factor.

I second that. There are many good agencies around DFW, and it is hard to offer any advice without knowing how far out you are willing to be, what type of environment you want to work in, etc. My advice to you is to decide what type of LE agency you want to work for and then identify the agencies that fit what you want.

The Dallas area is big with many agencies. I used to work in the Dallas area. Your larger agencies are going to pay well especially if you are certified, and or have college. But keep in mind that the smaller agencies have decent pay because they have to be competitive. I would recommend looking up all the DFW agencies and finding which ones you want to apply. Hurst, Eulles, North Richland Hills, Colleyville, Bedford are part of a PACT in which you submit an application and test for all at one time. on the Police Agency Combined Testing site they have a side by side comparison of all the agencies in the PACT to include benefits, pay, etc... This is just my two cents worth and doesn't really answer your question, but there are just so many agencies to choose from. Good Luck
