Dallas pd recruiting out of state ???

The Dallas Police Department will be recruiting in Tennessee and reports they plan on hiring 200 new police officers this year. They have two schedule interview sessions this month in my state. Does anyone know why? What is the current work climate like at the DPD right now? Is there a lack of officers? High turnover rate? Feedback please.

The only thing I can think of is their lack of competitive pay and retirement benefits. Almost all of the DFW suburbs pay significantly better than DPD. Most locals apply and test for the higher paying suburbs that are growing and hiring lots of officers. In my opinion DPD is a great organization, good equipment, lots of real police work....just not lots of pay.

I think the biggest deterrent to in state applicants is all the media surrounding the chief, and nobody here wants to work for someone like that.

My nephew got recruited from Penn State. He tested last month and should start the academy in July.

i remember at one time that you could apply, test, and get through the back ground and into the academy in just about a months time with DPD, a few years ago of course.

I just an email from my background investigator that my background is finished. Does anybody know how long it will be until i find out if I'm proceeding with the hiring process?
