  • PT Test for Texas

    Hello-

A google search came up negative on this-

Is there a standard pt test for the texas academy? I see different departments have agility tests (Houston,
Austin, ect) which include: run up steps, ladder climb with shotgun, sprint, ect.

So I see the "agility test," but no test with a big run. Is the agility test the test you take to graduate?

    Thank you!

Are you talking any academy, like your local community college's and such?
Sheesh, it's been 20 years since I went to my academy, but I do recall our agility test at the end, well a sort of.
Believe it was a mile run in 9 or 10 minutes. So many push ups, so many pull ups, and so many sit ups. If you're in decent shape cardio-wise, and have good upper body and good core strength you'll be fine. If not you may want to start working on it NOW.

Google Cooper standards or Cooper test. Many departments use this for their PT test. Some use Obstical/agility tests, and some make up their own PT test. There is no standardized test for Texas LE agencies.

I don't believe there is any requirement for PT to be licensed in Texas. There is a requirement for DT (Defensive Tactics). To my understanding PT standards, if any, are determined by the individual agencies.
