  • September Texas DPS Class

Hello, my name is recruit Rakowitz, but you can call me Rak. I will be attending the September academy, and like most of you, am excited, and nervous at the same time. I am 37 years old, have a wife, and a three year old. I would like to get to know a couple of you as we will spend 6 months of HELL together. I created this new thread for our class to use and for those going into the next class to communicate. My friends and family can find it easily too.

Like several of you, I had a real difficult time trying to, get into a class. I started my process back in January. I've to Austin three times trying to complete the conditional, a couple of different poly's, sent home due to high blood pressure, etc... So, for those trying to still get in DON'T GIVE UP.

For those of us in the current class I will do anything for you guys that I can so that we can make it through.

Well, I will see everyone in 6 days!!

We need to all show up Sunday with our screen names on a tee shirt so we know who each other are. LOL

I'm sure your instructors will also love to know what your screen names are and what recruits their associated with!

I couldn't agree more since they read all of these posts. Only a few would have to worry though I think.

They definitely look, but you have to use your real name for them to look. I used to have the Highway Patrol shoulder patch for my avatar on another site, one day the counselor called me to the back and told me to get rid of it. I wasn't a Trooper yet.

Well, I am leaving the house to head to Austin for my new adventure. I wish everyone a great week. I will post what happened this week when I get back home. For those of you who pray, I can use all the help I can get.

One week down and 26 more to go. I tried to prepare myself mentally last Sunday for the yelling, and thought that I had since I went through it in the military, but it always takes you by suprise. Sunday ended upnot being much fun, there was mass confession and everyone was under stress, but I received a free hair cut.

The experience is an awesome one! Our instructor treat us with respect, but are firm. In the military, there was a lot of mind games, I don't see that here. Everything they have made us do was for a reason. Most of the PT drills help us to get off the ground quickly, take defensive stances, and build cardo endurance. We had our first exam over Fitness and Wellness.

Our class started with 117 and we are down to 113 from what the counselors have put out to us. Well, everyone have a great week and I will keep you posted.

I heard a counsellor tell an instructor that we were down to 110. I have to believe that it will be lower on monday. Let's hope I am wrong. What a week it was indeed.

I actually tend to think that you are right. I did a count of thenumber of empty chairs after they tighten us up. Hey, you sit behind me right?

Yeah Monday I'm betting on loosing 4. I am very greatful to find out that we get so much time off for the holidays. It's going to motivate me to stay. Hey Carl, have you seen the October vacancy list yet. What district office are you out of? I know it's light years away, but I am praying to get within 70 miles of San Antonio. I own a house in far north Bexar county, but my wife works in south Bexar county. Jordanton, Hondo, Floresville are the kind of places I'm praying for. I could live here if I could get Johnson City which is open right now.

Thanks for talking to us lowly recruits.

It's way too early to be concerned about where you could possibly end up. WAY too early.

And remember, like I lectured before, you signed that paper saying you'd go anywhere in the state. Do not be surprised if you don't get what you want. Be very happy if you do.

But you really don't need to be concerned with duty stations right now. You need to focus on studying, not being the slow kid in PT, and shining boots. You need to focus on sticking around long enough to get the dream sheet. That's the majority of the battle right there.

Moon is right. And as far as getting by San Antonio that's pretty much impossible. JC will be filled before you get out
