  • Left Lane for Passing and DPS question

Can anyone enlighten me on this issue.
    TXDot states
Watch for signs on Texas multi-lane highways that read "Left Lane For Passing Only." These signs let you know that the left lane on a divided highway is not a "fast" lane; it is a passing lane.

After you pass someone, move into the right lane once you've safely cleared the vehicle. Impeding the flow of traffic by continuing to drive in the left lane is punishable by a fine of up to $200.

Does this apply only to driving outside city limits? How far or close do you have to be for the law to apply? Is DPS the only one that can enforce it?

Also DPS can actually write warnings right? Do these warning show up on TX DL checks for all agencies or can only DPS see these warnings? How long do the warnings show up for?
Romans 13:4 "For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil."

As long as the sign is posted on the roadway, then you are good to go. I have NEVER written for that charge, and don't plan on it. Also, several agencies write warnings. Our agency has a warning block on citations, but come on, it's easier just to do a verbal. I believe the only reason we have a warning block is because we are about to get our "CALEA" accreditation.

Warnings do not show up on a DL return, and DPS's show up on their inhouse system.

    How's the academy treating ya?

I can't see when any other agencies stop you, I can only see when another HP or CVE Trooper stops you or inspects you.

The left lane for passing only makes for a good interdiction stop.

I wish TX DOT would put those 'no trucks in left lane' signs on all highways.

Coming soon. It will soon be against the law in Ellis County for a truck(CMV) to be in the left lane.
