That mayor sounds like a total idiot! You got to see the video and not just read the story. The reporter even asks her if this means that cops can't chase someone based on a crime committed in their presence. She acts like she doesn't mean they cant, but that is exactly what she is saying. The chief acts like its no big deal in the video, but he is just job scared. Small town mayors have all say so in police administration issues. This is yet another ridiculous case of a "non-law enforcement" official making command decision that they have neither the experience, nor training to intelligently do! -
It's on the homepage for O.com.. The mayor is a joke. This is the type of GARBAGE that comes out of someone who has self-imposed power and thinks they know how to run everything. What's sad is the PD leadership hasn't set her straight. So.. Let the civil lawsuits fly, because the local 5-0 isn't doing their jobs. Wonder what will happen when she or her family become victims of crime, and the police didn't "catch the badguy"..The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed.

Regaining footing: SC mayor revokes no-chase call
(AP) – 2 hours ago
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The mayor of a small South Carolina town says she's allowing her police officers to run after suspects again.
Wellford Mayor Sallie Peake on Thursday told WSPA-TV she's revoking her Sept. 2 ban.
She said a conversation with Spartanburg County prosecutor Trey Gowdy prompted the reversal, even though she still doesn't want foot chases.
Gowdy sent a letter Wednesday to state Attorney General Henry McMaster, asking whether the policy violates officers' duties to uphold the law. He says he feared the policy would hamstring officers and embolden criminals.
Earlier this week, Peake said she ordered the ban after a city officer was hurt chasing a "guy who had a piece of crack on him." She said a drug possession charge was not worth higher insurance costs.

Yeah, what if they issued a warrant for the suspect that ran away. However, what would happen if the suspect ran away when Officers were serving the warrant? Could they chase then? Lol?! Thank goodness someone changed the mayor's decision.Comment
