  • PA State Police Class 141

    Hello Ladies and Gents,

I thought I would go ahead and get the thread started for those processing for the 141st cadet class that is tentatively scheduled to commence on November 17th.

I am fully processed and was appointed to the 140th class, unfortunately due to an untimely injury 2 weeks prior to the commencement of training I had to defer to the 141st class. Since I have been fully processed if anyone processing for this class has any questions I would be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

T-minus 89 days til the day and counting!

Can you give details of exactly how the med/psych test day went since that is the only thing left for us?

I have been really focusing on my distance, hill running which was a huge weakness and I decided to take a break and do an insanity workout which I haven't done in a couple years...and I was destroyed. Now I need to incorporate Insanity and P90X in my workouts. Fun, fun.

It's a very simple day. You show up at the academy and you all meet up in the front lobby. One of the instructors will come out and brief you on everything that you will be doing today. You will all get into formation in alphabetical order. And the first thing you will do is get your hearing test done in the front lobby. Then you will all be escorted to the back and you will take the psych exam. It's a two part exam. If your results show that you need more evaluation a third test may be administered. Then you proceed to sit down and review your medical information with the state police appointed doctor. Then at a specified hour you will meet with with an instructor and he will brief you on the academy life/rules and what you will be going through for those 27 weeks. Then if you have completed everything you're done, if not you have to go finish whatever portion you have yet to complete. Make sure you bring a lunch, the day is pretty long. Also MAKE SURE YOU TUCK YOUR SHIRTS IN BEFORE YOU ENTER THE BUILDING. They will tell you that when you get there but there's nothing wrong with preparing in advance.

        Nice, thanks for the info.

What attire do you wear for the day? Sounds like you didn't wear a suit?

Wow 89 days!!! I've been telling myself 3 months but somehow 89 days sounds much better. Hopefully everyone is training hard so when we get those letters we are ready!

My bi is complete and was turned in this last Friday. I hope to meet you all one day at the academy.

I already went through medical and psych with Maryland and I can tell you that psych was about 900 short simple questions , followed by an interview and thats it. Incredibly boring repetetive questions but its part of the deal so expect to kill a solid day worth of time overall.

You will get all of that information in your packet that they will send you once you clear your background. But no, you don't wear suits. You report in gym attire.

Same here guys waiting for med portion. When we get our packet in the mail for med does anyone know if we have to make apts with our docs to fill it out prior.

With the recent good news from my BI I'm guessing I am looking at the 141st too. Been running about three miles and going to start incorporating hills too which seems consistent with the others on here.

From past classes it seems like you have to get your doc appts and supporting forms completed quickly once you are notified for the PSP medical appt.

if anyone has a listing of items we should consider buying for the academy I and I'm sure others would be interested in seeing ahead of time if at all possible.

I am hopefully going to start going through some of the last academy threads and making a list of what they bought/talked about buying.

If I get something put together I'll post it here.

Yes you do have to make appointments with your primary physician, your eye doctor, and your dentist. I would schedule those pretty soon if I were you guys. Your medical records are valid up to six months after you saw all of those doctors to submit the info to PSP. The only thing I would wait on is the eye exam. When you get your med/psych invite the eye exam is pretty specific so you'll need to give it to your doctor to fill out that day.

I wouldn't start putting time lines on PSP. I cleared my background in Febuary/March and didn't get invited to the med/psych portion until June. I was originally processing for the May class (139). It all depends on how many fully processed individuals they already had that didnt make the previous class, or had to defer, then they continue on to the rest. Im telling you this so you guys can maintain your sanity. It took me and most others almost a year and half (some a year) to get fully processed and appointed to a cadet class. If you spend your time thinking/guessing PSP's timeline for the process youll drive yourself crazy waiting. Trust me, I have been through it along with many others.

As far as the list for the academy materials, I would not worry about that yet. You will get that list once you go up for your med/psych and will have PLENTY of time to get all of your materials. If they stick to the way they have been doing their classes lately, which have all commenced on time, I would say that the med/psych portion would start happening around mid September for the tentatively scheduled November class. Class 139 had theirs in March for the May class, and Class 140 had theirs in June for the August class. So I would imagine 141 would be sometime around mid September.

But take a deep breath and relaxxxxxx guys. Trust me I know what you are all feeling, but everything will come in due time. Take your mind off of the process and focus on your training. Start getting in shape, so when that appointment letter comes you'll have a leg up already.

Thanks for the help lava24, although a very long process I feel it is going by very quickly and will continue to do so, just trying to be best prepared as can be.
