
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
An 18-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police force died after being involved in a violent car crash Friday evening. A second officer is in stable condition.
The accident happened at the intersection of 39th and Wallace Streets in the city's Belmont section at about 9:00 p.m.
According to police, the narcotics officers were assisting in the pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle when they were struck by the fleeing SUV. The impact of the collision trapped the two officers in the car.
Fire Rescue and Medic Units responded to reports of Police Officers trapped inside the vehicle upon arrival removed both Officers from the vehicle.
Officer Isabelle Nazario, 40, was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, but later succumbed to her injuries.
Police Officer Nazario was pronounced dead at 9:48PM. Police Officer Terry Tull was admitted in critical condition and has been upgrade to guarded condition.
Officer Tull suffered broken rips and a broken hip.
Nazario has a sister and fiancée who are also Philadelphia police officers. She is survived by her mother, daughter, and large extended family.
Police Officer Terry Tull is a 12 year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department.
The teenage driver has been identified as Andre Butler, 16. Bulter was apprehended at Union and Mt. Vernon Streets.

Butler reportedly told police that he didn't want to go back to jail, which led to the police chase. Butler was already in trouble with the law after escaping custody in Family Court last June.
According to police, Butler will be charged as an adult with third degree murder, aggravated assault, fleeing police and involuntary vehicular manslaughter. He is currently being held by police at the homicide offices.
According to eyewitness account, the teenager was driving a Cadillac Escalade between 50-70 miles per hour and had run several red lights before striking the police cruiser.
"Our hearts and prayers go out to the Nazario family We have to wrap our arms around them and let them know we love them and care about them," said Mayor Nutter.
Officer Nazario is the third Philadelphia Police officer to die while on duty within a year.
The incident remains under investigation.
