    About the Job

    Recruitment for this position will begin 8/11/2008 -12/15/2008 with a two week cutoff thereafter until all positions are filled.

    Position is Term NTE TWO YEARS, with potential for extension of approximately 3-9 months additional. Applicants will be subject to probationary period the first year of employment.

    Applicants are subject to wear the required PPE (such as the Gas Mask) which requires a successful fit test (clean shaven).

    Applicants are subject Successful completion of all aspects of the Regional Police Academy" (This would include NLW, EVOC, firearms, academics, daily PT, etc.)

    The command Anticipates Enter on Duty (EOD) date of January 2009.

    Applicants must be available for required training involving 14 weeks of travel to Norfolk, Virginia, projected to start in February 2009.

    Incumbent provides AT/FP, physical security, and law enforcement services. Incumbent performs these duties in compliance with all Federal Laws, Department of Navy and Department of Defense policies, procedures, instructions, regulations and post orders, as well as state and local laws when applicable. Incumbent performs anti-terrorism/force protection duties including, but not limited to: Random Anti-Terrorism Measures (RAM), Gate Sentry, Counter-Surveillance duties, Patrol of an assigned area (bicycle, walking or mobile patrol), and operating specialized equipment designed to deter, detect, and defend against potential security breaches and terrorist activity. Incumbent must observe military customs and courtesies such as saluting active duty and retired Military officers and Base decals of active duty and retired Military officers, and giving the greeting of the day. An observant, vigilant posture in an effort to deter, or detect criminal or terrorist activity is imperative.

    Applicants should provide sufficient information within their applications/resume that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies required to perform the work of the position as follows:

    1. Knowledge of police methods and techniques to protect life and property.

    2. Knowledge of Anti-terrorism/Force Protection procedures suspicious activity and complaints.

    3. Skill in regulating vehicle traffic.

    4. Ability to communicate in writing.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Long periods of time may be spent standing at gates, properly controlling access, riding a bicycle, etc. The incumbent will occasionally be called upon to assist other police officers with active physical labor such as lifting, wrestling, subduing a suspect, etc. The incumbent will be required to run, walk and climb over rough terrain, fences or other obstacles, to bend, access attics, crawl spaces, and other recesses of buildings; operate a motor vehicle for long periods of time; to subdue persons resisting arrest; or move a disabled or combative individual. The incumbent must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone, radio and personal contacts.
