  • OSHP Auxiliary Questions

I was wondering if there was anyone out there with any experience with the Patrol Auxiliary. I am seriously considering applying. I understand their is a one week academy. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Tyler.

No personal experience here, but from what I've seen and heard they are required to "ride along" or otherwise perform auxiliary duties for a certain amount of hours per month. They don't carry firearms, but were (and I think still are) trained on shotgun for defensive purposes when riding with troopers. One of their biggest events is the State Fair, and they also are required to respond to major events as needed (in Cincinnati, they helped troopers with a plane crash that occurred in the Blue Ash area several years ago).

They seemed to be a place for retired troopers/officers to hang over the past years, however, more recently it seems like they've revamped their hiring process to attract younger, more active folks interested in serving in an auxiliary capacity.

    Be safe,
    RKC
