Job Summary:
Protects and ensures the safety of all employees, customers, public, and pedestrians while on or about CSX Transportation (CSXT) property. Protects shipments entrusted to CSXT against theft and vandalism, investigates crimes on or against the railroad, and participates in public safety activities including Operation Lifesaver. Supports the general mission of the police department, prevents crime, and protects the interests of CSXT.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
Provide protection to ensure a safe workplace for CSXT employees, contractors, customers, and the public when on or about CSXT property.
Investigate crimes on or against the railroad which include thefts, vandalism, derailments, signal damage, track obstructions, and escort and protect CSXT trains and the traveling public on Amtrak and commuter rail operations while on CSXT tracks.
Observe and report safety issues and abnormalities including, but not limited to, safe passage of trains, track conditions, overhead conditions, and generally facilitate efficient movement of trains.
Work jointly with state, local, and federal criminal justice agencies to ensure the apprehension and prosecution of persons who commit crimes on or against the railroad.
Prevent, detect, and deter terrorist activities in conjunction with other CSXT departments and public agencies to include law enforcement and homeland security entities.
Investigate and provide expertise to local law enforcement organizations investigating accidents and incidents at crossings and other railroad/public points of contact. Act as a facilitator to ensure the continuation of rail service after accidents, incidents, crimes, or weather related emergencies.
Provide essential and physical protection to sensitive rail shipments including, but not limited to, military shipments, munitions, spent nuclear fuel and NASA shipments. Protect the national strategic rail network vital to national defense and interstate commerce.
Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma/GED required
More than 3 years of experience required in Law Enforcement
Equivalent Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required
1 or more years of experience required in Law Enforcement
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice
More than 3 years of experience in Law Enforcement
Certifications/Licenses: certified or commissioned law enforcement officer
Criminal investigation training or experience or other in depth specialized police/law enforcement training coursework resulting in continuing education credits or instructor certification
Knowledge and Skills:
Firearm proficiency
Microsoft Office skills
Ability to retain security information in confidence

Work hours may include on call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day, with extended periods of time away from home.
