  • Night Academy

I received my certification in Georgia and am moving to Cleveland. i was wondering if anyone knew of a night academy that I may be able to take to make up any hours that Ohio may may me take to get certified in Ohio vs. Georgia?

I believe you must be an appointed police officer to become certified in Ohio using prior training. OPOTA will not just give a few courses to make you certified as an open enrolement student, otherwise you will have to complete an Ohio academy.

Better look into it real close, I have a friend that was an Officer in GA for 3 yrs, he came back home to KY and had to go through the entire 18 week academy all over again, KY would not accept GA since it was more that 300 hours short than KY requirement.

No, maybe I can't win, maybe the only thing I can do is just take everything he's got. But to beat me, he's gonna have to kill me, and to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me, and to do that, he's gotta be willing to die himself and I don't know if he's ready to do that. I don't know, I don't know.

thanks - not looking to go full time but wanted to do some reserve stuff while I work my full-time job. In GA, if you are certified out of state, you have to take an abbreviated 200 hour class with GA law, evoc, firearms, and a few other classes. Was hoping that Ohio had the same type of program. I guess when I get to Ohio I will do some digging and see who I need to contact and what the options are. Stay safe out there

Youngstown State has an academy, but it is part of the criminal justice-law enforcement curriculum. idk if it's truly open enrollment, but i would look into LCCC and Tri-C.

North Central State College in Mansfield has a night academy in the fall.

When I went through the academy, we had an Arizona officer who was relocating back to Ohio. He only had to show up for certain things that OPOTA wouldn't accept in his existing training. Worth a call for sure.
