    Applications are being accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2011.


    Location: Statewide
    Salary: $3,939 - $5,216 per month for Trooper (Starting salary: $3,939 per month after completion of the Highway Patrol Academy)

    Phases of the employment process are:

    Phase 1: November 13 – December 2; Accepting Applications.

    Phase 2: December 5 - 16; Written examinations.

    Applicants must achieve at least 70 percent in each section of The National Police Officer Selection Test and a minimum score of 21 on the Wonderlic Personnel Test to move on to Phase 3. The written examinations are general knowledge tests, not criminal law and procedure type tests. Individuals receiving passing scores will be asked to come in for the oral interview within two days.

    Phase 3: December 5 - 16; Self-profile personality tests and oral interviews.

    The self-profile examinations are the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2 (MMPI 2) and the California Psychological Inventory (CPI). These examinations are given to the psychologist to be used in Phase 5 of the process.

    Applicants must receive a favorable recommendation from the Oral Interview Board to be considered further in the process.

    Phase 4: December 27 – January 27; Background Investigations.

    Phase 5: February 13 - 28

    Letters offering conditional employment will be sent to individuals before requiring them to be interviewed by a psychologist contracted by the NDHP. A favorable recommendation from the psychologist must be received to continue in the selection process. A medical examination, to include drug screening, and job related physical skill tests must be satisfactorily completed prior to an offer of employment. Appointments will be scheduled during this time frame.

    Agency Comments:

    All expenses, with the exception of the interview with the psychologist and physical examination, incurred by an applicant prior to an actual appointment to the North Dakota Highway Patrol must be borne by the applicant.

    ******Post Assignments – The majority, if not all, of the post assignments will be in the western part of North Dakota. Applicants will be offered post locations based on the needs of the department in the Conditional Offer of Employment. The applicant can accept or reject employment based on the assignment offered.*******

    Orientation and the Highway Patrol Academy will be conducted at the Law Enforcement Training Academy in Bismarck. Orientation will be March 12 - 16, 2012. The training will be approximately twenty weeks.

    Individuals will be furnished room and board at the Law Enforcement Training Academy and will be required to stay there during the week. While in training, individuals will receive a salary of $3,400 per month. The salary will increase to $3,939 per month upon completion of the Highway Patrol Academy. In addition, each trooper is paid an unvouchered expense allowance of $200 after completing their Academy training.
