Cruised through their website but still had some questions...Do they have their own academy or will they sponsor you? Has anyone had any interactions with them or work for them? Morale, equipment, etc? How is the cost of living in that area? Pay seems pretty good compared to the Wake County area so I assume living expenses are higher. Thanks.

1.) You get full pay and benefits while in the academy
2.) You attend the academy at a nearby community college
3.) Morale is high, equipment is excellent.
4.) Cost of living is lower than wake county (for the most part). A single family home, in High Point, ranges from 130,000 and up. The "average home cost is $155K. Bigger homes (2000 sq ft., newer, 3/2, 2 car garage) can run you b/w $165-200K.

I've worked around them for several years. Their chief is excellent! He's not afraid of facing controversy, even if that means giving answers that aren't PC. But they deserve him because their prior chief was a putz. For officers who live in the city or within so many miles of the limits, they get a free take home car. (Some agencies do charge) Officers who live outside the limit park their cars somewhere near the edge of town.
Morale seems good, and their equipment is excellent. FYI, Guilford County SD is another good agency in the same area. Good pay, equipment, and morale.

I have a family member who has been on the force for years, and loves it. I rode along with him, and had a good time. Strange radio setup using the pac set in and out of the car though... Go for it.Last edited by Dep D; 02-25-2008, 07:06 AM.Be safe pulling back into the thread...

I worked there several years ago and loved it. I would still be there but had to make a family move. I didn't work for the current Chief and I see lots of things have changed. Every now and then I'll talk to some of my old co-workers and they still seem happy.

Code21,High Point works a 4 on 4 of schedule. In answer to your other question, you have to successfully complete BLET and obtain certification in NC in order to work in the state. The majority of the larger agencies run "academies" and you usually get paid by that agency. Other's will sponser you, after successfully completing a sponsorship application and background check. You are sponsored to attend one of the BLET classes run by one of the many local community colleges.
