  • White Towels/shirts hanging from a broken down car

I am not from the south but have transplanted myself out here from the west. Can anyone tell me where and why the practice of hanging a "White" object from your broken down car on the side of the road started. Is it to let us all know that you surrendered to your car.

I thought that your hazards were the apropriate action.

It means your car broke down and it wasn't abandoned. Hazard lights only work until your battery dies.
It let's us know your intent but if the car is in the roadway its getting towed, white rag and all.
Due to the Juvenile bickering and annoying trolling committed by members of this forum I have started an igore list. If your name is listed below I can't see you.

I got you, I just think it is a weird practice. As for the hazards/battery thing, I would have my car towed long before the battery dies from the hazards.

I have personally towed quite a few with its white "surrender" flags still attatched.

If it is in the roadway it gets towed by me. Off the roadway, and not on private property, gets a 72-hour sticker. Dept policy

I've always wondered that as well. Doesn't mean anything to me.
