Hopefully a deputy will come along and help you out better then I can.

Being that I may take this test I did some research and came up with next to nothing.

                1) They have between 250 - 300 sworn officers. They handle everything from civil process, evictions, prisoner transport to "real police work" (mostly out East) and they have alot of specialized units like K9, traffic enforcement unit, marine unit, SWAT, etc. They have a detective type positions called deputy sheriff investigators but I am not sure what their exact function is. Deputies do occasionally handle 911 calls at the discretion of the individual deputy but most police work is limited to traffic stops, crimes in progress that they come across and special details (such as the US Open, assisting the East End PDs on Holiday weekends, etc) There really isent much info about the non corrections aspect of the SCSO out there.

                Try these:

                www.co.suffolk.ny.us/sheriff/

hey did have a PBA website but I cant seem to locate it ATM.

                  Deputy Sheriff

Anyone had any info about the Nassau County Deputy Sheriffs? I thought there was a class starting in January, but I haven't heard anything.

There are Nassau Sheriffs in the NCPD class that started in Jan 2008.

                            pay scale

I believe you start at about 40k and after 5yrs you top off at 75k, but they did get a new contract recently and im not sure what it is.

Any residency requirement for this job? I always thought you had to be a resident of Suffolk county to get the sheriff position.
