I would say it really is a matter of personal preference; there are some similarities, but all are very different agencies. Personally, if you prefer "traditional" law enforcement I would go with the Troopers, that is their mission and there is plenty of opportunity to move up and around. Of course the negatives are that they are the largest agency and you will likely move (around the state) a lot.

ENCON is obviously a specialized agency focused on environmental crimes. If that is what you want to do, plus have the ability to work from home and set your own hours, then that is where I would go; just don't expect to be doing undercover drug buys, foot pursuits with gangbangers, etc.

Park Police is a good mix of both. They are a specialized agency as far as their patrol area and some of their duties (i.e. Search and Rescue) but do a more traditional LE than people think. With that being said I have heard that the agency does expect them to somewhat be in "customer service" mode because it's a recreational facility. I can imagine you if you are constantly having use of forces or drawing down on people or writing tons of tickets, the civilian park managers will start complaining.

Someone told me for park police, you’ll never have a summer again because you’re working like crazy during the summer and overtime is insane.

Basically you have to wait until they put the next academy class in you also may have to redo the psych and medical and certain portions depending on how big the gap is I think the psych is only good for 6 months or something like that. If it’s the job you really want I wouldn’t advise on going through the whole process to just defer it you never know if you will get the opportunity again just my two cents though.
