How’s the Academy going

Got my agility and interview in 2 weeks. Already did my psychological. Nervous as hell but excited.

You’ll be okay, it’s more of just going over your background packet, than an actual formal interview.

You should be fine, department is in desperate need of ppl.

Was simple and straight forward. Still even though I knew what questions were coming Still got a little nervous.

Im from List# 28-423, I got my letter asking to confirm my interest or not, I was scored at a 70. I just sent my letter back to them yesterday telling them I was interested.

How long do you think itll be before they get back to me to start the process? I know there are 3 lists ahead of mine but im seeing people who scored higher from my list are starting academy in the next couple weeks. just looking for some guidance on what to expect.

1 class just graduated, another graduates this Friday & another next Friday.

I’m unsure if they’re still running 3 academies consecutively. Only 1 person has confirmed an academy date.

but if they are, I’d assume you’d hear back fairly quickly & process very quickly as well.
If I were you, I’d anticipate a spring academy perhaps.

Just did the agility and medical. Took the psychological exam and interview in early September. The suspense is killing me....

I am from exam 28-424 Spanish Speaking Trainee. I did all my process back in September and I just received an update stating that I passed the physical agility and the medical. I have not received any update from the background check and psychological test. My question is does the process to know if pass the background check and the psychological test takes time? Does not getting any result from the psychological test is a good sign to say I passed after 2 months of wait?

My medical and agility was reschduled from 8/31 by Doccs. That probably postponed their decision. I haven't heard anything as of yet.

Just a quick update..all I have to tell all of you future recruits is to step up your game when it comes to cardio,,, push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, squat’s and other fun stuff. Also includes waking up at 430am to 9pm with very little sleep and study time. It’s all a mind game if you have been in the military it’s basically the same thing. I’m going on my week 5 and scheduled graduation is December 3.

My class is 09 and there’s about 52 or so left. Is is for the Dec.3 graduation. We won’t know where we are going till the 6/7th week.

With 6 Correctional facilities closing on March of 2022 do you think they will slow down on the hiring process?

Maybe a little, but I think they’ll still run them. There is still a lot of ppl that can retire at anytime & a lot of ppl are still quitting

This will undoubtedly make wait times to get home slower tho..

I just received a letter from DOCCS saying I passed the physical and medical portion and I should be receiving a call soon in regards on whether I passed the rest.

@Jerod…looks like you are ten days or so behind me in hearing from Corrections. Once I get an update I will sure post and share with this group.

Hey ya'll so i have the Physical/Medical on December 2'nd. I am overweight i am just wondering if they do BMI, checks like NYC Corrections, and NYPD Does.

The PT is simple. 12inch step test for 3 minutes. Just keep to the tone you will be fine. Climb the ladder is quick and easy. One step at a time up and down. The jump test, I literally just walked over it. One leg over crossing it and the lock cage. Even though it's easy as hell... wait for instructions. The bady bag pull, just across the room. Again listen to instructions and you will be fine. You have time still so do cardio to help control your breathing. I also out of shape, I started walking the track, lite speed walking then lite jogging. You will be fine. Keep positive.

I started going to the gym and using the Stairsmasters just dont want to drive over two hours just to be told your to fat for this position.

A lot of ppl go into the academy overweight , your fine just be prepared to be pushed in PT , plenty of people have dropped 50 to 60 pounds in the academy.

I went to the pt test with an overweight asthmatic and myself which I'm a little overweight and also asthmatic. We both did fine. You will also do just fine. Keep positive. You got this.
