    NYS AG Detective Trainee

    This position got announced recently:

Prerty rare to see these advertisements. Maybe be a good option given the projected budget/hiring situation over the next few years. Also get to start as an investigator which may be appealing for some with the anti-LE climate

Is this 20 year retirement and do you know salary levels?

"Cultural competence to understand and effectively respond to cultural differences for the purpose of involvement in undercover operations and/or otherwise to be inserted into investigations and interactions with targets across cultures."

I looked in the mirror. Not qualified.

I've never seen them put out an announcement for trainees before. I imagine they're having a hard time recruiting experienced police given that the NY AG's Office is one of the most blatantly anti-police organizations in the state, if not the nation. Not a single officer that I know trusts that office, though they don't seem to care much about earning our trust anyway.

Exactly. The AG is nothing but a political hack doing Cuomigula’s bidding

Are these “detectives” armed. The last time I dealt with AG investigators at court they were unarmed.

I believe they are armed. They have two types of investigators. There are the detective investigators who are armed and sworn police officers; then there are civil investigators who are unarmed and hired off of the civil service test (SG-18 Investigative Specialist (Law Dept)). They do mostly defense work; primarily defending DOCCS against inmate lawsuits

The investigators I dealt with were not doing defense work. They were actively investigating criminal activity. Perhaps regulations have changed, but I read nothing in the announcement that mentioned any qualifications to carry firearms.

I don’t know then. I can try to find out. The announcement did say that they needed to complete the Basic Course for Police Officers so they are at least trained for firearms.

If they are unarmed then either the regs changed or they were some other position (auditors?, analysts? civil investigators helping on a criminal unit?)

Not sure about applying. You need to live in NY at appointment

No experience is needed for the trainee position

Anything further on this? Might give it a go but guessing the trainee pay is in the 40s.

I was looking the salaries up in the public database, and I saw that investigators at the level one are making 6 figures, now I don't know what is the base salary, that could be because of overtime and other things. I think is worth applying, I'm preparing my application to see if I have a chance.

Hopefully this position is the 20 year retirement and not the regular NYS retirement.

State fiscal year ends on March 31. That may have something to do with it. Along with how much of a stimulus NY gets from the feds

These timeframes really aren’t that long. I took the state investigator test in 2011. Didn’t get an interview until 2014. Didn’t interview for the job I accepted until 2015. And that was with a 100

Pretty much. NYS has one of the most drawn-out and complicated procedures to be a police officer there is.
From pre-test residency requirements to 4 years between tests etc.

That sucks, I Have more chances getting hired faster in CBP than NYS and cbp is known for having a long hiring process! Jeez.
