There has been no talk of layoffs in the police department. We don't even have enough cops to police what we have and keep up with retirements.

  • They talking about major cuts in the transportation side though buses and train service.

    • Just saw on the TV, major cuts and layoffs expected.......guess that’s the end of the line boys. Hope to god the new hires don’t get laid off

Your other comment made it sounds like we were getting attitudes from NYPD but I was just clarfiying that we don't see that. Of course, NYPD is bitter about the job. I would be too.

What’s the difference in pay between NYPD and MTA? 1,000 - 2,000 dollars? You act like it’s Clarkstown pd or Suffolk...those cops clear 120-130k to 155k as regular cops..

Everyone trying to get on mta is former NYPD

Because they want to stop working 5 days and only 3-4 days...

It's a lot more than a couple of grand.

The MTA just had a test for Bus Operator, that I took and another test is opening in November because they are under staff. A lot of people retire. My source is my uncle his currently supervisor for MTA Bus Operators.

Are you sure you want to be a bus driver im one but dislike it alot. I took every test to get out of it including Mtapd.

I don't love the idea of it but I want a decent job. I don't really care if it is traffic agent or bus operator to me a job is job. Of course the goal is a job in Law Enforcement. Even took the "MTA Fare Enforcement Agent" application. Which had a starring salary of 53k

      • The latest I heard is that the hiring is being scaled down but will continue. In addition to the 160 already hired it looks like about another 200 will be coming on board. I do not know a time frame.

Apparently the higher ups have expressed support for the police and recognize that we provide a valuable service.

The 160 that has been hired, are they from the 2016 exam? Or are they a mixture of rollovers from the 2019? I believe the 2016 exam hired mostly rollovers and minimal civilians.

      • Will it just be rollovers not civilians in that group of 200 .

I think we may have burned our bridge with Nassau. The feeling is that we'll end up going back to the NYPD Academy. But that's speculation at this point.

      • I believe he is referring to MTA using NCPD academy.

          Yes. Apologies for the confusion.

      • I thought all hiring would be exclusively from the 2019 exam, and that older exams are a “dead issue”. It’s good to hear hiring may continue although sadly less than expected.

I think it’s safe to say no breakthroughs will be coming until after Election Day though...

This has nothing to do with the elections, but it'll be at least November before anything happens in all likelihood.

      • Is it possible to change investigators?

If they even hire anyone anymore, I’m gonna assume it’s after the election. The MTA is allegedly in need of money from the federal gov, and the President out a stop to all talks of another relief bill until after the election. I’ve heard the hiring freeze is strictly financial but obviously politics has a lot to do with money and such.

        • So I heard the NYPD Academy just opened up . I think at half capacity. So hopefully soon something happens with mtapd .

The NYPD just put in 900 people, I don’t think any of them are outside NYPD.

        • Just curious on what some of you do to increase your push up count.... thank you in advance trying to get another 10-15 more than I do now

            Seriously?

You keep doing push-ups, that is how you get to do more.

Really? Interesting. I was looking more for what people do in terms of sets and workouts. Thank you though.
