2019 UPSTATE New York Deputy Sheriff/Police Officer Exams

Anyone know which departments current have a test out fro September 2019? I know these ones currently do:
Livingston County: Deputy Sheriff/Police (Same application)
Steuben County: Police
Ontario County: County Police Officer & Police Officer (Different applications)
Monroe County: Deputy Sheriff/Police (Same application)
Erie County: Deputy Sheriff & Police Officer (Different applications)

Anyone know how many Orange County sheriffs is looking to hire? Im currently in the NYPD and was looking to transfer. However, I don't know if its even worth transferring contract and salary wise. Anyone have some insight or advice?

At the very least, always take the exam. You can decide later on if the switch is right for you. If you're a resident of Orange, the sheriff's office actually has a decent contract I believe compared to other police agencies in the county and if you're hired there, they factor in your years of experience to determine your starting pay. I had 5 years on in NYC when I left and I have no regrets.

Thanks for the reply. I am scheduled to take the exam in September and I was just able to establish residency in the town of Crawford, specifically Pine Bush which I believe is one of the smallest municipalities in Orange. So assuming I do well on the exam, I'd doubt I would get a phone call from them but hey who knows. I love Orange County and although I'm in MTS which is pretty good command, I'd still like to transfer, so im studying using the PTS course and hoping for the best. I heard if you score an 85 and above you have a shot. What makes you not regret leaving the NYPD besides the obvious reasons like bad bosses and being treated like a child? Is there more independence and better QOL?

When you leave the NYPD, you are generally treated like an adult for the most part. You are able to go out there and actually feel like you can do your job without having to watch over your back and wait for the job to screw you. The quality of life alone was worth it when it comes down to taking time off, swapping tours, a District Attorneys office that's at least remotely interested in prosecuting crimes, not getting notified for some mandatory OT detail when you're about to get your RDO's etc. Everyplace pretty much offers 20 year retirement and your city time counts so when I left the city with 5 years, I just had to do the remaining 15. If you score 85 and above you can stand a chance of getting hired. Crawford is small and already probably at their max staffing but you could be canvassed by plenty of other places. One drawback though for the agencies hiring NYPD guys now is that if you resign from the city with less than 3 years I believe, the city will go after the new job to try and recoup the costs of training since the NYPD has been losing guys left and right to other jobs. If you do wind up leaving the NYPD, hang on to your copy of the Exit Interview because NYS DCJS requires certain documents in order to add you to the state registry and the NYPD is absolutely fvcking terrible about furnishing any requests.

Time counting up front for pay and in the back for retirement is a great benefit of transferring up there. Is there a decent amount of OT? One thing i did hear is that your OT is not pensionable up there but i'm not sure if that's true. But the good thing is I will hit 3 years in January so hopefully that will help me if I do reach the hiring process. I doubt I would be hired before then if the exam is in September. Crossing my fingers I do well on this one.

I'm NYPD as well taking both orange county and port jervis. What work schedule does orange county do?

It varies for each agency. Generally speaking, most jobs work 4 days on / 2 days off, 8 hour tours. But a place like Town of Montgomery does 12 hour tours I believe. Best idea is to peruse each contract online at Seethroughny. Best of luck on it and it's never too early to start practicing for the agility

Eh I don't have much knowledge about Port Jervis PD. Almost like one of those forgotten areas in the county since they are on the far Western edge.

Hope all did well on the exam. Question, how is the exam graded? I saw it said question 1-40 is 2pts and 41-80 is .5 pts..

No idea hopefully half credit for 1-40. I thought it was ridiculous except the second half.
