until you get the call, don’t believe anything you hear. It’s all speculation and guessing. There is currently a full state-wide hiring freeze of the executive branch (which applies to police):

I think that only applies to state agencies, not county and town agencies.

The following is from the 2021 proposed county budget that was posted today. “Police Department –We are budgeting for additional classes of up to 200 recruits to support the department to offset the anticipated attrition and facilitate lower costs. The 2021 Budget maintains the sworn headcount of 2,500 consistent with the 2020 Budget and minimum manning. We are additionally planning for five additional police medics in 2021 to increase staffing in the Emergency Ambulance Bureau.”

Max99 skimped through the budget. Seems like ~80% of the money from last year was overtime expenditures from PD and Sheriff/Correction.
Appears to be their best interest to fill vacancies to lower overtime. They stated 200 for this year and 75 each for the next 2.
Then the new training facility should be open in 2021.

75 officers max for following years?

Anyone else get a canvas letter from Hemsptead? Any opinoins on them vs the county? COE for the county is coming up so I have tk decide very soon. The pros that I see are no academy for current LEOs and a higher starting salary.

I think this will go for most villages vs county questions..... the villages is less movement but higher pay (Hempstead does have some of their own specialized units) as opposed to Nassau is a little less in pay but more room for opportunity.
Also probably a little busier on the radio in Hempstead than in Nassau depending on the PCT.

Just wondering, at what point in the process did you get the canvass? Was it before or after civil service OKd your packet? And also was the canvass letter come via mail or email?
-
It will always come after civil service approves your packet, as that is when it gets sent to all the villages. So between that point and before your COE with the county is when villages can contact you. And you get a letter in the mail not email

Just an update for those interested...they just moved 18 officers to the academy. Got to mean something in a positive vein...
