    • I just took the exam this past week. It was pretty easy. If you take some practices online; it's pretty much the same thing as the real test. Good luck to everyone who took it, or is going to take it!

so, is there really something like that? i know detectives, lieutenants and couple officers, so how does it going to effect the process if i show them as referance?

Also so interested in this since, strangely enough, I have at least one person at nearly every job I've worked, plus some close family friends, that are on the job

          • knowing someone or people, close friends, family on the job is a total plus- however it cant positivity help you in any way shape, form, or matter. you sign a form when you do your apd with your BI for corruption etc. that form indicates that any such connection or hook can be treated as a felony and change your status to NQ. a lot of people say DQ- that's the wrong term- NQ- not qualified- Q- qualified.

            • I think putting an officer as a reference that actually knows you is a plus, but it does not guarantee a job.

I believe I searched the forum and saw a couple users state their BI asked for some references, that are their neighbors. If you know an officer that is a neighbor(the officer I know lives below me), I believe that can help you long term.

I signed up for the exam on the 28th. I am really considering becoming an NYPD officer, because I dislike my current career as an accountant. I recently graduated with a Master's in Accounting believing I would enjoy the field in the long run, but being in this field for four years, it hasn't gotten better.

Good luck to all on the exam!
Glad to hear someone else is considering leaving accounting. Im a CPA working for Big 4 accounting firm and I'm so ready to do something different. I take my test on the 26th. Good luck!

                  • Anyone have any other last minute things to study? I know this is a "common sense" exam but I always test better when I feel like I've prepared. Ive taken the practice exams on NYPD recruit and got some additional questions from JobTestPrep website. Anything additional would be appreciated. Thanks.

I hope we both get in! I start at PwC in August and I'm working on my CPA, in case this doesn't work out.

For the test, you should be fine. There is nothing you really have to study, the hardest part is the memorization part.

For me, nailing the memorization part gave me a ton of confidence to bulldoze through the rest I did a bunch of practice memorization stuff whenever I could. Cars/plate numbers when I drive, what people are wearing at different places etc

                          • Does anyone know if a past prescription for adderall would get you DQ'd from the process? I had a prescription in college for 2 years to help with school work and stopped taking it after graduation. That was over 4 years ago. Any insight would be appreciated.

                            • DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE +5 POINTS FOR BEING A NYC RESIDENT IS BUILT INTO YOUR SCORE WHICH PRINTS AT THE END OF THE EXAM? OR IS IT ADDED AFTERWARDS?

the residency points will be added when they release our numbers. so whatever you got on the test does not include the extra 5.
