how does a UMOS go about getting certified for a language?

I can't speak out of experience but you probably just take a small proficiency exam for that language to demonstrate your skill. I wouldn't be surprised if the steps to document it are on the department intranet portal. If you are not currently NYPD yet, they probably go through it at the academy, sorry about the hypothetical response tho
