  • NYPD American Flag Breast Bar

I've seen it on some cops and other guys don't have it. Just curious is this an award you have to earn or is it something that you automatically get and is optional to wear? Thanks!

Are you referring to this "commendation bar" above?

    It's not required, at all.

    just a sign of patriotism.

In the Courts, the original of those bars were issued after 9/11, have 9-11-01 on them. Only those on the job that day are supposed to wear them.

Pretty sure courts isn't nypd so your answer is irrelevant. The american flag breast bar is just to show patriotism. And the NYPD has its own WTC breast bar that only guys who where at ground zero are allowed to wear.

how about a little courtesy towards a retired superior. His answer was not irrelevent as you say, he stated what was proper for the nys courts. He has done his time as a sworn officer and should not be subject to a non law enforcement officers disrespect

The thing is the OP was asking about the NYPD, not NYS Courts, different agencies, different rules. So even though his information sheds some light on the history of the flag breast bar from a NYSC perspective it doesn't answer the OP's original question.

That doesn't change the fact that your response has doosh-baggery written all over it.

listen youngster, if you truly plan on coming into this business, always remember: It's not what you say, it is how you say it. Dino might be a boss from another agency but remember he is still a boss

Just a bit of history. OCA awarded the flag bar with 9-11-01 to all Officers on the job that day...sort of a unit citation. If memory serves, we may have been the first to wear it. The WTC bar was limited to those of us actively engaged in WTC related operations. Obey please remember that a "boss" is just that, no matter what job they are on. Both before and after 9/11, Officers and "bosses" worked closely with our counterparts in the NYPD. And both agencies treated each other with total respect.

Your attitude stinks; on top of that you're not even on the job yet. So in retrospect your response here is irrelevant.

Just came to say NYS Courts are aces and every single one I've ever dealt with have gone above and beyond.

Especially when summoned for jury duty
