  • NYPD academy salary?

Just out of curiosity, how much do you make while in the academy? If its $40,000, does it come out to like $1200 every 2 weeks? Anyone in the academy or someone graduated can tell me how much each check comes out to if you live in nyc.

    thank you

During the Academy your take home will vary depending on your deferred compensation contributions. Also minus your union dues, medical, pension contribution, Federal State and city tax your looking at $1100 bi weekly.

Are they forcing you guys into differed comp? It's not a must to have, and guys have waited until top pay to up the percentage and "make up" for lost time.

Commo said dependin on deferred compensation deductions. This obvioualy reduces your pay as you pay into it voluntarily.

Got ya, so basically that is an additional VOLUNTARY deduction that you are making out of your own free will, correct?

Deffered comp is similar to a 401k at a private company. So basically correct it would be voluntary.

No we're not forced into deferred comp but it is highly recommended we start now since we all know how great tier 3 is. My take home at the beginning of the academy was 1100 bi weekly, now with the 457 I'm taking a little bit less.

It also depends what you claim in taxes. I claimed 0 and the take home was 1080 but other guys had more.
