NYPD Hat Question

I posted a thread pertaining to this on the Duty Gear section and was referred here.

Question for the NYPD folks: I've noticed in pictures (and sometimes passing, but never had the time to ask) that some Officers somehow manage to equip the 8-point hat onto their belt-- it doesn't appear to be hanging from anything on the belt (baton, taser, ect), but as if it's a piece of equipment meant to hold a hat or something finagled yet non-crap-looking to keep their hat readily accessible if need-be (Command Staff) without it being on.

So, my question being: How do you do this? My initial guess is perhaps some sort of quick release keychain on the backside of the hat and belt, but I'm not 100% sure.

EDIT: Pull apart keychain, not quick release.

its just a key chain hooked on to the edge of the hat, nothing fancy lol

I use to clip my hat to my keychain that had no keys on it. Lol.

the brim of the hat has a wire running through it on the inside to keep form, so it's easy to clip onto a key chain holder thingie

Yes on foot, details, crime scenes. Basically you can jump out of your car without it but once a scene is established, your hat is required.

I absolutely can't stand that stupid hat.

Tie is awful too -- especially with the BDUs.

The tie I was able to live with. It was that tie clip that used to fall off and get lost endlessly but you still had to have it on if you wore the tie!

Winter setup for me is BDU with turtle neck, vest over it, along with Blaur Patrol jacket over it all.
