Yes you could potentially be able to pick up OT in any LE job. You could also potentially win the lottery. If it's there take it if you can but never sit there and rely on it. I speak from experience

There's guys right now with over 600 hours and it's only april..you will be FORCED to do OT, sometimes on a daily basis. OT is offered to the Officer with the lowest number of hours first (regardless of seniority) then if no one wants it, the junior man stays.

It seems everytime they try to cut OT, all they end up doing is creating more of it.

WOW, i thought DOC overtime was bad, officers in the buildings are doing 110 hours a month being stuck 4 out of 4. I thought that was bad enough but 600 hours by April, thats insane!!! i didnt know it was that bad sarge. how do officers even have time for anything else or a life? go to work for 16 hours and come home and go right back in 8 hours for another 16. Is theres a break between tours?

Thanks he was a great man. I will say that he didn't take care of him self health wise. So for everybody going into this field and going into a particular agency stay healthy don't work out and go hard just to get on you want to live to be old and enjoy your hard work when you say goodbye to the job. I learned a lot from him including the mistakes we all learn from others mistakes. We need to be smart some of us will be the future of law enforcement for nyc some will not (we all don't get on that's just how it is) good luck to everyone and continue to keep hope alive.

                • 600 right now is the extreme, there's still people with a lot less, some even no OT. It really all depends on th tour you work, and who you work with. Right now there's just so much OT that it gets really bad for the guys. When things run normal, you can expect to do your regular tour a lot of times, if you choose. Hopefully with the new hiring, it levels things out.

300, WOW!! Im at about 150 hours this year and I think thats alot! i dunno how some of these officers love to max out every month. Time to yourself and your family is very important. Remember that once we hang the uniform up, we will always be a husband/father/son/brother etc.

I think NYCpoorest is right about them using the poor / 20-35th percentile. I'm in good shape and i usually run my 1.5 miles in about 12:10-12:30. And thats BARELY passing (by seconds) the Fair percentile. I think the majority of the people will fail if they going to go with anything higher that 35th percentile. Especially if they are looking to hired more officer.

There is no need for btos to be any higher honestly unless they want them running from one side of the bridge to the other
