I applied however there residency requirement was vague, do they prefer Dutchess County residents, IE, are they automatically ahead of applicants from nearby counties?

They'll take a resident with a 70 over a non-resident with a 100. This is from two friends of mine that work in that County(Local PD, and Sheriff).

If a municipality uses a 'residence preference list' of passing candidates on a civil service list of eligibles--it means that all legal residents who passed the exam will be grouped ahead of non-residents. Many counties, cities and towns do grant preference in appointment to legal residents.

Nowadays almost all municipalities use a residency list. Mostly places classified as cities will take take from both list, but that depends on the amount they are looking to hire and the depth of the legal residents that passed the test.

Yup, they earn more salary than i do..........................not too much more though. Dutchess County offers a TEN percent differential for 12-8 shift.
