Position Summary Information
Essential Duties Summary
1. Periodically tours buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows and gates to determine whether they are secure and not tampered with.
2. Will swipe Guard Plus Wand at designated locations or otherwise record visits at each designated points to indicate that rounds have been completed at specific intervals.
3. Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them or telephones for assistance from security office or police, according to the circumstances.
4. Sounds fire signal to alert fire department and College personnel in event of fire or extinguishes fire, using fire extinguisher.
5. Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning in heating, plumbing, electrical or other parts of the buildings’ mechanical systems.
6. Patrols College grounds to detect unauthorized persons.
7. Checks exterior and campus lighting.
8. May escort and admit personnel to campus buildings.
9. May be assigned special guard duties in specific locations or buildings such as library and residence halls.
10. May be in constant contact with security office and other guards by portal radio.
11. Makes written reports of incidents.
12. May work either day or night shift.
13. Must perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required Qualification Summary
• Must possess valid New York State security guard license.
• Ability to speak, write and read English and follow written or oral instructions.
• Must be physically capable of detaining or apprehending unauthorized persons.
• Experience as firefighter, police officer or guard is desirable.
• Must possess valid New York State driver’s license. Exception to this requirement can only be made with written approval of Director or Associate Director of Public Safety.
Preferred Qualification Summary
• Must possess valid New York State security guard license.
• Ability to speak, write and read English and follow written or oral instructions.
• Must be physically capable of detaining or apprehending unauthorized persons.
• Experience as firefighter, police officer or guard is desirable.
