Interesting, but that pay isn't very appealing.

That pay is just your base, it does not include your soft money or your location money which in nyc, li is about an extra 3500.00

I'm assuming they don't carry. It states under the "Peace Officer" section, that they are granted Peace Officer powers, but doesn't talk about carrying. How fast is the hiring process? I might take it... maybe.

You don't carry...you are a Peace officer like you said and you have powers to write tickets and do traffic stops only on the grounds of the state mental Inst. where you will be working. Its a VERY Good job To start with..the pay is not too bad compared to other similar positions (like nyc Special Officer..a Peace Officer). I am pretty sure A LOT Of PEOPLE WILL TAKE THIS EXAM. I Look at this state Position a lot and see this position all the time in the NYC area.. so that means they need people and the Officers they get don't last in the NUT HOUSE LOL.

We have a facility in my town. It's a great stepping stone to start putting money into the pension system. A guy I know started there and is a Court Officer now.

We have a safety and security officer somewhere on this website. I forget what his username is. There is another thread about safety and security officers on here somewhere in the NY forums. I think his name is wo 150. I might be thinking of ISO though and not SSO.

The job is a Peace Officer job. No, we don't carry. Unfotunately one of the very few State Peace Officers that don't. However, depending where you work at, we make arrest frequently, car stops often and issue summonses in additon to our other duties. Start at around 35,000 and after a year it goes to 41,000 + like wo150 wrote, soft money. Approx. 3500.

Very cool. I'm glad that the light blue color is sort of disappearing.. I never was a fan of it. But this isn't a fashion contest even if school safety calls I'll take it, but I'm considering this test as a back up for nypd
