You just have to "go with the flow" and see what happens. In the meantime; take other civil service exams.
It's just nerve reckoning to just wait. I feel like I will be disqualified for some reason but is it true that I could be held against civil service exams? For example, I am applying for the NYCDCAS Investigator under EE, education and experience. Now if i were to be dqed would it be held against me?

Again, as I have repeatedly wrote on this board. Each agency has its own criteria of hiring and retention standards. It isn't the end of the line for those DQed from NYPD employment for whatever reason. Most will either obtain employment with other LE agencies--either out-of-state or upstate-- or get out of the business altogether.

      • Does any one know who makes the final decision on wether you get DQed or not?

        • do the guards at rikers go through the same process as us? and if so is it the same guidelines?

          • Psychologists are PhDs. There are NO psychiatrists or psychologists who are not an MD or PhD.
Now go home and get your shine box!

There are FOUR separate aspects of applicant processing that can lead to disqualification: Medical history and examination, failure to pass the physical agility, psychological evaluation and finally the character background investigation. Generally speaking, applicant processing is under the realm of the NYPD Deputy Chief pf Personnel.

They, the sworn employees of the NYC Dept. of Corrections are NOT called 'guards'...they are CORRECTION OFFICERS. And yes, corrections applicants of NYCDOC undergo a hiring process similar to NYPD.

                • ok because i was reading the post and saw how many of the "correction officers" had gang affiliations and so much other negative character issues

I was offered the job by them recently ... I'm waiting to see if NYPD calls me within the next two weeks. If they do i'll go to pd without any question and if they don't I'll really have to sit and weight the pros n cons between state and city corrections ... Money isn't everything even though my pay isn't bad when u factor in the soft money added to my base and the insane of OT I am able to work voluntarily not mandatory.

                    • That would be due to court ordered hiring practices...

As I tell new hires in my department, "Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see".

The psych wanted me to fax over some documents so I did the very same day right after he told me he was going to put me on review. I believe that the only reason I am on review is that I had an arrest two years ago and was charged with DWI/DWAI. Long story short, I was behind the wheel with the keys in the ignition and the heater on but in essence, the charge was reduced to a idling ticket. How likely will I be off review ? Especially coming from that it was a isolated incident?
You may be called back in by a supervisor who is an alcohol specialist. You just have to wait it out and see which way it goes. If you make it through the Psych Process, you still have an uphill battle. NYPD's general policy (backround) for a single alcohol violation is, 5 hiring bar from date of offense. They base it off of the Initial Charge not its final disposition.

As you have now learned- you dont have to be physically driving to be considered dwi/dwai. So, you did it- lucky you got a good deal. Whatever you do, dont attempt to minimize your mess up. Own it, and show how you have moved on.

If you get a Proposed dq, on the psych, you should consider appealing it. Perhaps it wasnt the alcohol issue- at least get too the point in the appeal which you can review your psych file, and see what you need to work on. The you can decide from there if you wish to spend the money to put up a fight.

On the Psych? Final decision is made by the director of psych services. She's the highest ranking psychologist. Dr. Elouise Archibald. Why do you ask?Contacting her about a pending case and attempting to plead to her is a bad idea. If your on review, let it run its course. It takes many minths. Their are channels it needs to go through before she gets your on her desk. She will not go grab your file if you contact her.

Their are some Psychologists, working for NYPD With Masters Degree's, under a Limited Practice License who are working towards their Phd, and full licensure. They are allowed to do consultational work, but not practice clinically. They work under a fully licensed psychologist, much like a PA does with a MD. Ill get the details on how that works, tomorrow. N

And, you do know not all medical doctors and surgeons are actually MD's, correct? Some are D.O.'s. Similair, they so the same job but their significantlt different than a M.D.
