I took my Psych written back in Oct 2011. I was never given an appointment for Oral, I keep calling the Psych numbers 718-760-7553/8 and its always an answering machine. I finally got a call back after 3 messages and some lady said "we will be calling everyone soon, wait for a call" What the heck does that mean "soon"

Also how long is the oral psych interview. Besides asking questions similar to the written exam, do they ask you about stuff on your APD5 to see if you changed your answers? I submitted my APD5 back in Aug 2011
      Exam # 0321 (8/09)
      APD5: (8/11) -- Submitted on Time
      Medical: (10/11) -- Passed
      Written Psych (10/11) -- Taken
      BI (11/11) -- Done
      JST (3/12) -- 3:35
      Oral Psych (6/12) -- Done
      Mini-Med (6/12) -- Done
      Academy (??/??) -- Maybe yes/Maybe no/Who knows

PAPD is full of former NYPD people. NYPD refuses to cooperate by giving the PAPD what the need to complete it's BI. It's not because the don't want "bad" habits infesting their department.

All this stems from the flock of officers who left right after 9-11.

Here’s what I think about the ridiculous oral psych exam from NYPD. It is big waste of time. NYPD assumes or thinks they are going to pick out the bad apples by asking pointless incoherent questions. What makes the psych doctor from the so called psych unit; assume that he or she will prevent crooked people who are not mentally fit for the job to screw up the department. I mean come on lets be serious!!
You have candidates breezing through the oral psych process literally; they go in, they see the psych doctor, and within 5 minutes they are out the door with a smirk on their faces. What I’m trying to get at is that fellow officers on the job or that were on the job either raped, stole, stereo typed, drove under the influence while on the job, robbed banks out of state, committed suicide, and the list goes on and on. Do you think a stupid oral psych stopped those fellow officers from committing such actions mention above???????
You want pick out the mentally bad apples, administer a Polygraph!!
Oh wait that’s right, NYPD can afford polygraphs

The polygraph is even more ridiculous than a psych evaluation. I refuse to believe in something that the United States Judiciary System will not even recognize.

That being said, I agree with some other points of your post, NYPDHOPEFULLY. The psych should be used to weed out those who are susceptible to devious behavior. They're going about it the best way they can. Of course if someone commits suicide or robs someone while on the job, they're going to try and tighten things up at the gate but a polygraph won't fix that. A lot of good candidates don't get a shot because they can't pass a polygraph. A candidate's blood pressure and sweat don't predict his future or verify his past. A good background investigation will

Agreed, you said it!! A good background investigation will, I am a witness of that because I experienced it with the US Capitol Police Department.

Short answer- contact a psych appeals specialist.

More specific and detailed answer- contact the forumn member Vista, he's the go to guy for all things related to this topic.

I went to therapy with my sister because we just didn't get along very well...it was all voluntary on our part because we wanted to improve our relationship. Something like this wouldn't put me on review would it?

Probably will put you on review pending the notes from your psych doctor. How long ago?
