Won't say much on the academy but if the PAT was a challenge for anyone they should start dedicating more time to fitness.

  • Why won't you say anything about the academy? You're not posting state secrets here, just whether the PT in the academy is tough / strict or failable. It's not classified information. Or were you told by the instructors not to post specifics? That'd be a different story.

Well yes the staff does not want the academy being openly discussed. Especially not during the academy or there will be consequences...And you only go through the process once so I wouldn't rob anyone of the full experience. Lil bit of trauma bonding lol...And as to whether its tough or strict, the better shape you're in the easier it will be. If there's something specific you want to know feel free to PM me.

i dont remember off the top of my head but top pay is around 90k after 9 years

  • As of April 1 2025 top pay before location, uniform, SLED is about 93K after 9yrs. Figure approx 100K (downstate) before OT and longevity steps and longevity bonus.

    • Has anyone for zone 9 or the 5 boroughs done their oral psych interview? If so, what rank are you? Trying to see how many ranks they need to go through to get to mines.

      • From what I am hearing they are having a tough time filling out these first 2 academy classes. Many people are deferring, and also failing the PAT. If youre failing the PAT youre going to have a very tough time with the academy. So id advise everyone to really push yourself and get in shape. They are looking for around 500 total people to do an upstate/downstate class at the same time. So they may fly through this list. I would think if you are among the first 1500 people on the list you would have a good shot of getting into this first class... if you can pass everything.

Well they are looking to do the upstate and downstate classes at the same time this year, so that's 2 classes right there. The academy is 4 months long, so those 2 will probably be it for this year by the time they actually start. Hopefully next year they can have more

It's really hard to give a straight answer on how many classes they would do each year, it all depends on multiple factors.

The Major at my command said the next academy would be in May.

      • When should medical be scheduled since the academy is around the corner any idea.

The medical is good for 60 days I believe. So around that amount of time before the academy. I hear they are aiming for an April class, but I've also heard August. It really depends on how the processing goes

      • April is better hopefully.

        • I’m currently in the background stages of this process and it’s taking me a bit to get all my needed documents so I hope I don’t get dropped. I read through almost half of the thread and some people have been dropped randomly due to the investigator waiting for documents they couldn’t get.

Also I’m not sure if there is an active GroupMe chat for this process so I decided to make one. If there is one please let me know and I’ll delete it.

          • I scored an 88.6 for the nyc locations, should I hold breath in hopes I get called at any point ?

            • Quick question. Ranks 6- 4xxx for nyc have been offered conditional appointments but the academy only holds so many people. Once this class is over are they going to start again from 4xxx and onward? or have another class with those that are left in the 4xxx. Are they expecting that many people to drop out?

              • There's alot steps to pass pat background psych board review and medical. so alot of factors

Honestly it's very hard to say, but the last class from the last list, lowest score was an 88 and that class had to wait 8 years. Then that list expired for the new list you're on. But like I said earlier, the more people who keep deferring, and failing the PATs the further down the list they will have to go

                • Do Court officers have awards (breast bars) and longevity hashes similar to NYPD?

I tend to have those haha. Just a curiosity since I've seen some breastbars in pictures but not sure what they are for and never seen any longevity marks
