I also received an email about this stating pretty much the same thing.

    • Which book should we get to study for this upcoming exam?

That's a good question. I say that because the state recently changed the entry law enforcement exam. I won't be surprised if they do the same for Court Officer

Nothing to it, it's all common sense and reading comprehension.

You don’t need to buy anything tbh, they provide some study guides in their own website so I will recommend to just stick with what they are providing and nothing else.

Yes long time ago, it was open last year from February to March if I recall correctly.

not sure, I would ask that question when your process starts. I've heard some people getting a waiver based off religious reasons.

My guess is yes. Their mindset would probably be that the academy has a set of rules, you either adhere or don’t take the job, basically.

My guess is yes, you'll have to cut your hair.

Usually for state exams it's around 3 months so i would wager it'd be a similar amount of time

          • Amazon Kindle has the study guides from the last exam and passport court officer guides are really good also. Baron books is suppose to be highly rated to use for studying. I was stupid thinking I didn't need to study. Lol wow was I wrong. Scored at 70. Not making that mistake this time around.

This is just my opinion, but I would leave the NYPD on a heartbeat for a court officer spot. I rather be in the court houses during the summer heat and dealing with less stuff.

You will lose out on money and retirement, but quality of life Court Officers win hands down

I would. It'll be easier for you too since you already went through pd academy. Plus if you ever wanted to move somewhere in NYS you have a job as long as there's a court house nearby. There are also various jobs you can do within courts, you're not just confined to a court room for your whole career unless you want to be.

Bunch of guys from nypd and corrections always end up transferring over. It really depends on how you’re as a person. Do you like to be on patrol and see where the day takes you or come in and do the same thing everyday.

            • retaking my psychology evaluation and physical for the upstate class. got a email last week. im guessing notices are being sent out. i passed both pre pandemic, but a year has gone by. here goes nothing

            • Random question that may have been answered. Taking the test coming up, is jd 9 going to be considered downstate now or upstate? What is the best chance of getting hired, upstate or downsatate? I’m in the Bronx and am super flexible, but def would rather go up.

9th jd is considered downstate. Also, upstate is much easier to get the job

            • Hopefully when courts open up fully we’ll get a more concrete update on the situation
