Hello all, went to the pre-med on Monday and passed everything but the vision. Something did not seem right with the testing. I was told I needed Lasik surgery and did not understand why. I have never needed glasses and only this year began using the lowest grade cheapies from CVS or Duane Reade glasses to read. Long story short I went to a specialist who does lassie and was completely tested. Results were I have 20/20 vision. The doctor specifically told me he believes I was tested incorrectly. I should have known when at the testing I was asked to read for distance with my reading glasses??? but you want to comply and try to follow protocol.. Right?
You decided you needed reading glasses and began using the cheapies from CVS? And these are the glasses you used during the eye test? Unless I'm missing something, the mistake was made by you for using glasses that you did not need which weren't prescribed by a doctor/optometrist. Anyway, I hope it works out for you...Good luck.

    • Regarding the Cheapies from CVS, Yes protector343 you may be right however I did not need or ever needed a prescription for glasses. I have had 20/20 for years and only recently this year began using the cheapies (called cheapies because of the price by the way and not the inferior quality of the lenses) they are available at these various stores with very minimal magnification and that is why they are approved and sold. I made it very clear at the pretest that they were just that, low grade reading glasses that help when i do just that read. Let me go on. During the testing it was asked by those administering the vision test if you have reading glasses that you should not wear them during the first part of the test which was for distance. Also to allow your eyes to adjust if you had just worn them. During the test the tester had me do distance and then short distance. I was doing well but then I was asked to put my glasses on for distance????? Really? I complied and well the obvious... did not pass. Oh yes , Protector343, something is missing here. Long story short was told I had 20/70 vision. Also should get Lasik surgery. Last night went to Lasik center and was completely tested. The specialist Doctor made it very clear, my vision is between 20/20 and 20/30, not20/70. He said emphatically I was tested incorrectly. I have been calling all day and sending E-mails like crazy. I am looking to get retested and also see if an Independent specialist would be allowed for passing the vision test.

      • I did not make a mistake in using glasses that I did not need that were not prescribed by a doctor. The mistake was in allowing the tester to ask me to use reading glasses for distance reading. These cheapies are used all the time and are approved and sold in stores without prescription to aid in minimal reading. You say glasses that I do not need? No, they are minimal reading glasses that I do need and there is no mistake in deciding that.

          • Hopefully this wont hold things up.

They made a mistake with me too, telling me i was an inch off my actual height, luckily i had lost just enough weight to compensate, but had i not, the extra weight to height could of dq'd me.

The moral here is; you are your own best advocate, dont just let others who have no interest in your future, diminish your chances of obtaining that future.

To be totally honest if they ask for any volunteers to go first my hand would without a doubt shoot up first. I would much rather go first and get it over with because the anxiety would be absolute torture for me more than the actual pepper spray. Lol. I once sat on my hair straightener for a good 3 seconds on accident, I'm anticipating similar feeling to my face haha. Always down for a new experience. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger lol! Bring it on!

I wish that would have been the case, because I would have volunteered as well. Unfortunately, we went in order of our recruit numbers. To add to the anxiety, a few weeks prior to getting sprayed, I read a comment that Johnny Knoxville had answered on Reddit.com. When asked what is the worst pain you have ever felt on Jackass, his response was "there have been numerous breaks, sprains, and concussions. I even broke my dick. But the most pain was probably from getting sprayed with saber red pepper spray smack dab in the eyes. Excruciating pain for at least 20 min. It feels like someone started a fire in your eyes and put it out with kerosene."
