I guess I can't complain to much as the facility I work for is great and I have a great bunch of fellow officers. I heard other facilities don't fair so well. Ok now I just have to wait for my results from the PAT.
curious what NYS agency are you working for now?

NYS OMH. I started state service with OMR but only spent 9 months with them before transfering out. I have no problems with OMH except for the occasional mandation and working most major holidays. Other than that it has been a great place to work. The one thing I will miss if taking a job with the courts is the 25/Out retirement. I actually started talking to a financial advisor about weather it would be in my best interest to change to a 30/55.

      • To be clear....vacation days and sick days as well as compensatory time can be accumulated. There is a limit on the number of days of AL you can bank.

Better than being forced to take all your vacation by the end of the year with no where to go.

          • Ours is 360 vacation and something like 1600 sick. Our personal time is 40 hours a year and must be used before 365 days.

            • Hello all. Im new to the forum. Thank you for the insight on the ins and outs of the hiring process. I too took the test in 2009 and scored well enough to complete all phases of the hiring process. My concern is the life of the list. Although the State has increased its canvassing will it really hire many of the candidates it has brought in? I've read that every court house is short staffed but also read a concerning article in the ny daily news which said that Gov. Cuomo is asking all agencies to continue operating with what they have. If this happens what will happen with all the candidates that have been called in (including me) if the list expires? Help!!!

Congrats on finishing the process. We are just gonna have to pray that things turn around soon.

                  Hey Wabee,

Congrats and welcome. The OCA will extend the life of the list. I've been ready for hire since 2009 or 2010 (its been so long I forgot). Is there anyway you could post a link to that NY Daily News article?

                  Thanking you in advance,

                  • Still waiting for my results of the PAT. I actually call all my local courts and got detailed information on my traffic infractions. I had 4 total. They were all 1110's and 1 1180 and they were all from 1997-1999. Now I just need to get ahold of my investigator.

                    • Whats up Craven, any updated word from OCA yet?

                        Hey Action,

I am well, and you? I was told to call back in October for more concrete information about an academy start date. I'll keep you all informed.

"Megna asked agency heads to submit their budget proposals by Oct. 16. Cuomo will unveil his budget plan in January."

                            • While Cuomo has impact on the OCA budget, the Judiciary is a separate branch of government. The Executive Branch has no direct control of OCA's spending. Additionally, LE positions are usually exempt from these limitations, where the safety of the public is involved.
