  • My Story...

I'm actually pretty familiar with the examination process as I took everything but the one-on-one interview with the investigator back in 2005. After being almost done with the process I took a step back to evaluate it all and came to gripes with the fact that the salary at the time of 25,100 (I believe it was) in the academy was not worth it.

It's fall of 2009 and my views have changed as the starting salary is much more respectable now. I called the recruit number and was told that to re-open my case I had arrive at LeFrak with a copy of my driver's license and a copy of my college transcript; the hold-up now is me waiting for the transcript to arrive in the mail.

My exam expires this coming January. My question is after my case is re-opened and I go through all of the other exams (JST, written and oral pysch and hopefully the one-on-one interview) - what are my chances to enter this January? If it's too late would I be placed on the waiting list for the next class (July 2010)?

Speculation has run rampant that the January class will be small but If for whatever reason I am not considered for that one because the competition was fierce NOT because something of my doing do I get to be placed on the list for the next class, if not, then what happens?

    Thanks...

If your exam expires and you are not hired you start from scratch, and go to the back of the line. Your chances are OK at the moment i guess. As of now their is only a 100 people going into the next class, if that raises (I believe it will) you should be a shoe in for it. Otherwise not to sure you will make it in because of cadets and military. Good luck

Well let me re-phrase one my questions then - I should be getting my transcript in the mail within the next few days. Do you believe that I still have enough time/will get a chance to schedule the: JST, written and oral psych and the one-one interview in before 12/31?

You'll be fine for january and should have everything done pending on no reviews or holds.

As soon as I get my transcript I am off to LeFrak. I want to get the process moving as quickly as possible.

With all due respect, its a bit unsettling to hear that you want our job now b/c the pay is better, when you had people who took this job no matter the pay when it was at its lowest b/c they had the desire and passion to be in law enforcement.

just because the guy didnt take the job when they were starting at 25k doesn't mean anything, especially during the height of the economy!! The salary now is "respectable" but not good or great!!! Suffolk, Nassau, Yonkers all pay alot higher then the NYPD which is def a harder job except yonkers maybe.

It means something to me. I have alot of respect for the officers who took this job when the pay sucked, and didnt put it off like others did and only went for it when the pay went back up.

I'm hoping when it comes time for me in 2 years, that something like this happens so that people just harping for the benefits aren't trying to join and reconsider.

This job is full of people in the past few classes who only took this job for the money/benefits. Many people arent on this job b/c they want to be police officers, they are here b/c the economy sucks and the job pays reasonable now. My opinion will never change, to me that is not a good thing for any department.

Hopefully by 2011 they all turn over, leaving a lot of spots left for people who want to do it for the job.

The damage is already done. If/when you get on, you'll see the mentality. Its a disgrace.

the job paying more will hurt those that 'always wanted to be a cop' but it will attract a much broader diverse and educated crowd for sure.
