  • Computer Cops.. PLEASE READ!

To all of you computer cops out there in the land of internet, PLEASE STOP GIVING OUT WRONG AND INNACURATE INFORMATION!.

It is really getting out of hand lately with rediculous answers to generally easy to answer questions by people who are NOT police/peace officers of any sort of agency. Especially if it is NYPD related.

I am generally a quiet person, but enough is enough.

Wrong info about laws, policies, do's and dont's, enforcement powers...etc. Do not always rely on GOOGLE/YAHOO/BING/WHATEVER to get your answers and then play "i know that answer" game by posting it back on here and pretending you knew it all along. Its mostly WRONG anyway!.

    Ok, im done here.
Captain Square Badge, reporting for duty!.

I have. But what else is new. People's OPINIONS vary. As long as they are labeled as OPINION, fine. But I agree when FACTS are presented, they must be FACTual.
        Politically Correct? No.

TNT you are correct, You have young guys trying to get on the job and post inaccurate information. the saddest part is when they get into whatever academy they are going for and they start being "BUFFY" they will be hated. they do not realize when you think you know too much but don't know anything, you will be outcast.

NICE POST, I hope LINY and some of the others read this.
....I would rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6...

NICE POST, I hope LINY and some of the others read this.

I was talking with a detective\academy instructor a few weeks ago and he told me a story about a young guy early 20's in the Westchester Police Academy thought he was Super Cop or was going to be Super Cop. The kid was driving down the Saw Mill PKWY and some guy got in front of him so the kid started to tail-gate him and then stopped the guy that got in front of him. How did the kid stop him you may ask? Well, he had a undercover police light installed in his car (Totally illegal) and put it on so the guy thought he was being stopped by a Cop. The kid got out of the car and started to flex his invisible badge threatening the guy, little did the young guy know that two undercover detectives just happend to be stopped around where all this took place and watched the whole thing happen.

After the kid finally let the guy go the two undercovers followed the kid and then stopped him. They asked him what all that was about and the kid told them he was in the police academy blah,blah,blah....the detectives were not impressed nor amused by this kids' actions. So, they took him down to HQ and told him; You either resign from the academy or we will charge you will false impersonation of a police officer and on top of that he would also get a nice heffy fine for having that police light in his car. Sure enough the kid just kisses his LEO career Good Bye FOREVER!

It's too bad that these young guys think that they know it all and they think that being a LEO or are in the Academy they feel the law does not apply to them. It's a shame...young imature guys like that are what give true LEO's a bad name in society. If it were up to me I would raise the age to be a LEO to at least 25 years old. By that age candidates are more mature to be walking around with a gun and a badge.

I say the age should be 29 to get on the job, hell I started when I was 31, I'm 32 now and I firmly believe you have to have a high level of maturity and responsibility to be a police officer

Ok, I was trying to be nice with 25, but I agree with 29.

It's not a question of being immature...it's lacking the maturity to do this job...and with an entry age above 26, there would be a lesser likelihood of hiring someone that is not ready for the enormous responsibility that comes with the position. With that, TNT, CRS and SSD I am firmly in your corner!!!

I totally agree, so many opinions, so little time... And so much of it isn't just a mistake, It is 110% WRONG, seems like TNT, myself, and others have to spend a lot of our time correcting, the inaccuracies that are posted here by POSER, FAKES, Wannabes, and TROLLS...

+10 for saying something, it is getting a little out of hand.

If you are newbie LEO....Please disregard most of the "first" postings you see here. Take the time to go to the Penal Law and the Criminal Procedure to get the actual answers. That will serve you better in the long. I have posted several corrections to misstatements on this board. And I can tell you while they were accurate, they weeren't always fully explained. Want to know who can execute what type of warrant? Read it yourself in the CPL. The explanation of the NY Stop and Frisk rules is in there too. It wouldn't hurt to keep a hard copy of both laws handy to refer to.

doesn't mean you won't spend a night in jail and have the judge sort it out in the morning though
I believe these posts may have put NYCTNT over the top, and I agree with him 100%...

I mentioned in the School Safety thread that I was wrong about the Peace Officer status. That was it.
