Since we are on the subject of benefits, do officers receive health benefits after once they retire? If yes, is the coverage just for them or also their family? Is there a cost? Also, what is the the percentage of salary does a member receive once they retire after 20?

Yes you do receive health benefits. You and your family also receive dental eyeglasses, and prescriptions depending on which union you are in. Police Officers have the best union when it comes to benefits. I think the Detectives union (DEA) is the worst.

We have worked every holiday so far this Academy. And a few weekends we do work in addition to during the week.

It's considered "good form" on these sites to read previous threads/postings about the Agency you wish to seek employment with....it's amazing how much detail can be learned from reading them.

                  Hence the "pointless post"

I absolutely agree with you but I happen to like my side of the Hudson (Bergen County ). I was just asking to compare NYPD's pension system to the PFRS.
                    Thanks for being thoughtfull though...

That link... it clearly reiterates what EnWhyPeeDee had said. The Base salary is around $76,000. Total Compensation is listed as around $90,000.
