  • SSD/Officer Safety Question

    Hi All,
I just had a question about NYPD policy, primarily within the School Safety Division. Can SSAs wear a wig on Duty? It seems to pose an officer safety issue. If you were in a fight, someone could just pull it down right over your face!

    Thanks!

I don't know - but I'll add in this. If you were in a fight, someone could pull your duty hat right down over your face.

Since we are on the subject of NYPD policies, are Officers allowed to wear boxer shorts or do they have to wear tighty whities??

Some of the questions people ask..

I don't think that's so fair. NYPD doesn't allow facial hair simply because they don't think it looks good (I agree with them on that ).

Can't speak much with regards to wig, but certain things do make sense. I remember in my academy class we couldn't wear boxers, had to be tighty whiteys because they were concerned about people's "junk" being visible while working out. Once you graduate, wear what you choose.

You can have facial hair (must be a full beard; no designer styles, goatees, etc) if you have a medical condition that is documented with the department or if your religion requires you to have facial hair. Additionally, anyone can have a mustache as long as it is neatly trimmed and does not extend below the upper lip.
