How don't you include Suffolk County residents? Heck even Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and Dutchess are off the list? Is it because of traffic? I mean why not include those counties and open up the pool? I know they "only hire from within the city" but isn't that sort of idiotic? Policing has gone from living where you work to living where you don't.

Yeah, they only hire a handful of people for each academy if they do hire for each academy and they never seem to have a problem finding residents to hire.
(Also I've heard the only non residents ever hired are family of family on the job)

There's a guy on this forum who just got hired by Yonkers PD for this academy. And yes, he's a resident, and stated that they will only take residents. They advertise in The Chief-Leader to get suckers to send their money lol

Only. If you're not a resident, don't even bother applying.

Their perogative. They don't need to open the pool up. If they did, they would. Just how it goes in YO where everythings on the level

Nassau County on LI is ok though...makes no sense.

I think its more to do with the tax base, by keeping the employees in the city they are paying for their own salaries. In reality of the situation its just plain odd that they open it up to Nassau residence and close it to Suffolk. More importantly I feel its rather silly; look I know that you want a smaller pool for the tests and all but don't cut your nose despite your face. I'm from the school of the thought that a larger pool allows them to have a better pick on those "quality" canidates that they always talk about during the recruiting effort.

Well I'm glad I never sent them my money, didn't even bother taking the test a couple yrs ago.
