  • Webpage of shame...

In Charlotte NC they publish they mug shots of everyone arrested on a local TV station wsoctv.com every week along with their charges... not sure how much deterent this would be but it does play on the shame factor. Let's face it most normal folks do not want silver braclets on nor do they want the public seeing their great mug shot profile all over the media... would it deter the hardcore slime bag criminal? hell no but would it help deter some. I would bet yes.

I think the mug shots should be even bigger and Include their name full address and email address make their arrest a full public record. Now yes It probably can not happen because of the legal protections we have but for certain crimes the wall of shame can have a slight deterent effect and that is the goal no? To keep people from doing crimes in the first place?

Keep in mind there are a lot of little derelicts that would actually want their little mug shot on TV. Might be more trouble than its worth.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Someday, somebody should sue the police and the news station for that. Its nobody's business if they get arrested.

We're caught between a rock and a hard place on this one.

Under most state's laws this information is public record, it must be released and we can get sued if we don't release it.

My agency routinely received demands for information on persons arrested, mainly from the press and from private companies who sell that data to numerous attorneys. The attorneys then inundated the arrestees with advertisements, trying to get them to retain their services for court. Get arrested and within a week you will receive letters from 20 different defense attorneys at your home, telling you why you should retain them instead of someone else.
Going too far is half the pleasure of not getting anywhere

It's public information MULLIGAN00, don't get mad at the police, we have to post it or we can get sued if we don't. Talk to the politicians that made this one a reality.

Our local paper used to only print names of people arrested for felonies, now they do it for the most minor violation (driving without a license, etc) BOOORRRRING

The Nassau County DA was posting pictures of everyone arrested for DWi. Then they posted a picture of a woman arrested for DWI who was actually having a diabetic episode........I believe the appropriate suit has been filed.

Good, I was wondering why Newsday took down the DWI thing. That could really screw someone up. To think this woman's picture was up there with a bunch of morons who drove drunk, I hope she wins. The war on DWI's in Nassau County is a good thing, slandering a woman whose unfortunate enough to have Diabetes is not.
