So I recently just transferred to a new small town municipality but did score high on the civil service test. If the opportunity comes to go to the sheriffs dept. Would you guys recommend it? I have trouble figuring out why people leave the sheriffs dept to do patrol. Thanks again guys.

People tend to leave sheriffs officers to work in municipalities or state agencies because their functions are different. While most states have sheriffs officers that operate in a similar manner to municipal police officers on a larger scale, New Jersey is not generally like that. Sheriff’s offices in New Jersey cover the safety operations in the courts, jails, & support services such as K9, Crime Scene, and Emergency Services/OEM at a County level. Routine patrol is not one of their functions. Jurisdictions without their own police departments are covered by the NJSP.
There are a few County Police Departments as well.Last edited by Next3Exits; 03-13-2021, 02:48 PM."The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion." Proverbs 28:1
