  • Manchester NH Police Academy

    Hi there,

I am wondering if anyone has information on the Manchester NH police academy...maybe someone who recently went through it. Just wondering what it's like as far as how much running on a typical day and PT in general. Also, does the PT progress in difficulty as it goes or is it pretty standard all the way through? Finally, how does the general NH academy that follows compare to the specific Manchester one?

Any info would be appreciated..thanks in advance!

Manchester is not a seperate academy. In NH, local and State go together to the academy in Concord.

However, Manchester does a preliminary academy for 6 weeks BEFORE the real academy starts, then does some remedial training after the official academy ends.

    Very good department.

Ok I see. Do you have any information on the NH academy as far as PT goes? How much running is done?

Home page for the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council

Is the official site for the academy.
It should answer most questions. I will need to defer to someone who has been through the program for specifics.

          NH Academy

As of a year ago running was done on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for PT. In the first week or two it was only about 1.5 to 2.5 miles. I think we went up to about 4 to 5 miles in the ending weeks. The worst part is in good weather you run around the parking lot. They will not let you go outside of the academy parking lot. In bad weather you run on the gerbil track inside. It is a small track that takes 17 1/4 laps for 1.5 miles. Ventilation is awful and the smell is worse.

          Hope this helps,
          Scott

            Thanks Scott.

Are the runs paced or do you pretty much run at your own pace? What would you say was the hardest part of the whole process? Any tips would be helpful cuz I'll be joining the academy very soon!

The haradest part in the fact that it is very mundane. Other than the timed runs, the pace is usually an "air force" shuffle
