  • LVMPD; how much outside work you guys have?

I have been reading and it seems like you LVMPD officer do not get very much OT at all. So How is the departments policy as far as outside work? I imagine with all the Casinos and private companies you all would have a lot of out side work possivbilities? Just wondering if most cops get those details, or if it is very hard to get.

    thanks

Why would you need to have an outside job? Our dept pays excellent money. The OT is there to work, but it’s not unlimited. I would advise a new officer not to live above their means. As far as outside employment; it is very restrictive. In fact, unless you own a business, I do not know anyone who actually works another job?

You can not work in the casino industry, serve alcohol, security, valet parking, ect. Any job which may cause conflict with the LVMPD. After working 40 hours here, I have no desire to work anywhere else. I enjoy my time off…

Also, while on probation (18 months, maybe a bit longer for officers), you cannot have any outside employment. Once past, you have to get approved to have outside employment, and cannot work in any of the above industries VegasMetro listed.
